SUGAR CANE. This quintessentially American brand, named ``Sugarcane,'' was the first postwar clothing manufacturer for the United States that was born in Japan. TOYO ENTERPRISE COMPANY LTD., the creator of Sugar Cane, was established in 1965, with the U.S. military's full-scale intervention in the Vietnam War, targeting personnel connected to U.S. military bases in Japan. Initially, the company manufactured clothing for the US military and also acted as a distribution outlet for US military surplus domestically, and when the Vietnam War ended in 1975, the company transformed into a full-fledged clothing manufacturer for the domestic market. At that time, it was named "SUGARCANE" by an officer stationed at a US military base. Sugar Cane was born in Japan, but as it grew up around US military bases, its spirit and manufacturing know-how are American-trained. From that time to the present, the company has continued to create authentic workwear made from denim, a material that can be said to be a symbol of American style.
