■WAREHOUSE Long Sleeve Reverse Style Crew Neck Print Sweatshirt COAST GUARD WH483
This newly developed sweatshirt is the result of repeated trial and error to recreate the 1960s RW type. This groundbreaking athletic sweatshirt, which uses horizontal fabric to reduce shrinkage, often draws attention to its side panels, but its true characteristic lies in its "thread." The tightly knitted fabric is stiff yet elastic, and heavy yet soft and fluffy. Warehouse is particular about the "grain" of the fabric. While a normal sweatshirt has a "vertical grain," this RW model has a "horizontal grain." To achieve this prominent grain, the thread count and knitting density were repeatedly adjusted. What they finally arrived at was "doubled yarn," which is rare for a sweatshirt. Typically, a sweatshirt is knitted by combining single threads for the face, middle, and back, but doubling the yarn made it easier to achieve a tighter knit. Furthermore, due to the characteristics of the loopwheel knitting machine, the fabric could be made stiff while maintaining elasticity, and the surface grain could be made prominent. Historically, later adopted sinker knitting machines, even with the same yarn specifications, resulted in a fabric that was too stiff, and the difference in the finished knit was obvious. The "weight" of the finished fabric requires skilled work during dyeing and sewing. Dyeing puts more stress on the fabric than usual, and sewing is not as easy as with lightweight knitwear. This "baton relay" of cooperation in all processes—fabric, dyeing, and sewing—is the "weight" of this RW type sweatshirt. Now, let's discuss the original RW model. Surprisingly, when a torn part of a vintage garment from the 60s, commonly known as a "tataki tag," was analyzed, "doubled yarn" was exposed. The spirit of the pioneers who attempted to develop athletic wear with an idyllic yet uncompromising approach is unearthed only through "the pursuit of endless details."
