■WAREHOUSE Lot 3022 Plaid Chinstrap Long-Sleeve Flannel Shirt G Pattern

The reason for using power looms to make flannel fabric is not simply to create "selvedge flannel fabric"; the selvedge is merely a byproduct. The purpose is that by using a power loom, the fabric can be finished without compromising the texture of slub yarn. Similar to denim, the yarn used to weave vintage flannel shirts in that era was uneven slub yarn. If that yarn were woven with strong tension on a modern loom, it would result in a different fabric. The inherent properties of the yarn would be lost. By weaving with an old-fashioned power loom, the fabric can be woven without losing the inherent unevenness of the yarn. The power loom used to weave flannel shirts is the same twill weave loom used for denim. Since flannel shirts require a pattern, they are designed to weave multi-colored yarns. The warp threads move complexly up and down according to the pattern, while shuttles carrying different colored weft threads move back and forth in quick succession. In this way, flannel woven with the moderate tension characteristic of a power loom becomes a fabric without losing the inherent unevenness of each thread. The flannel fabric, once woven, undergoes a napping process on the back, following the manufacturing methods of the time. Napping creates a soft appearance in the pattern. Furthermore, napping adds fullness to the fabric, elevating the texture unique to power looms to an even softer feel. Thus, flannel woven on a power loom possesses a texture that can only be achieved by reproducing the yarn itself. The simplest way to identify this is the presence or absence of selvedge (ears), and just like vintage flannel shirts from around the 1960s, Warehouse also uses selvedge in the gusset. ※The following shrinkage will occur after washing. For each vintage piece encountered by chance, the brand thoroughly researches its background from the era it was produced, down to every single thread, fabric, sewing, and even the washing process. ![]() ![]() Red/Navy ![]() ![]() ![]()
