This piece was custom-ordered by a soldier stationed in Nha Trang, a city where a U.S. military port was located during the Vietnam War, from 1966 to 1967.
It features a classic souvenir jacket design with a tiger and the character "福" (Fuku - luck/fortune) on the chest and a map of Vietnam on the back.
However, what makes it unique is the individualistic embroidery layout, with messages expressing the futility of war divided and placed above and below the map.
Most vintage souvenir jackets found have a black base color, so the green and red colorways, which have been reissued this time, are rare and highly sought after by collectors.

VIETNAM JACKET

Just like the Sukajan (souvenir jacket) born in post-war Japan, the souvenir jacket that emerged during the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s is commonly known as the Vietjan (Vietnam jacket).
Mainly made from two types of fabric: cotton twill or camouflage poncho liner, the designs are embroidered with thick, matte colored threads.
