An early 1950s piece with a white tiger roaring on an orange and silver body. Using white-based colored threads and skillfully manipulating the direction of the stitches, the embroidery's three-dimensionality expresses the tiger's fur, stripes, and the dynamism of its forelegs resting on the rocky ground. The tiger on the chest is also larger than usual, characterized by its powerful embroidery. The black ribs with red lines tighten the overall look. The reversible side features a landscape pattern depicting a Japanese scenery on an all-black body, using colorful, pale threads like blue and pink. The motif is a winter scene, with Mount Fuji and pine trees on the chest, and a dragon, an oriental pagoda, and a deer standing at the base of a pine tree embroidered on the back. For American soldiers at the time, souvenir jackets were also attractive landscape paintings they wanted to take home to their country.
