■The 2 Monkeys RANDONNEE TM12952
The 2 Monkeys' new boots, RANDONNEE, are based on boots that appeared in America in the early 20th century and were called "outing boots" or "scout boots." This upper design, with each side made from a single piece of leather sewn at the toe and heel, and a leather part running from the lacing to the cap in the center, was used for baseball and football spikes around 1880. This was likely due to the lack of seams on the sides and the ability to lace them up close to the toes, allowing for a snug fit. Around 1910, sporty leather shoes (boots) with an outdoor image were developed by combining this design with a leather or thin rubber sole and using an oblique last, like a Munson last, shaped to conform to the toes. For about 20 years afterward, many American shoe manufacturers produced these boots. The 2 Monkeys' RANDONNEE boots are made with approximately 3mm thick leather, using an original last that modifies the toe of the Munson last based on the design of that era. Despite the extremely thick leather, the absence of a lining and the use of a single piece of leather for the shoe make for excellent comfort. This "Tatsuno Hand Wax Leather" is made by hill-dyeing tannin-tanned leather with added oil, and then infusing the grain with heated and melted wax using a large hand iron. It is a very labor-intensive leather, taking 20-30 minutes of manual work to impregnate a single piece of leather with wax. It has a supple feel and the transparency unique to full-aniline (dyed with only dyes) leather. As it wears, it develops deep color shading and a rich patina with brown cores that emerge as the color fades. Because it uses double shoulder leather (from the left and right shoulders of a cow), which is very dense, it may have tiger stripes, but we hope you will enjoy these as the natural characteristics of the leather. The 2 Monkeys The 2 Monkeys is a brand created by Mr. Yohei Goto, CEO of JELADO, and Mr. Riya Suzuki, former CEO of Red Wing Japan. It was launched to create boots with a timeless feel that had never existed before, by combining the unique appeal of vintage wear that Mr. Goto developed at Jelado with Mr. Suzuki's sensibilities, honed by delving into the world of classic work boots. The 2 Monkeys particularly focuses on the period when workwear and boots began to develop uniquely in America, just before that, when Europe and America were influencing each other under the same roots and beginning to diverge. For boots, this would be the early 20th century or earlier, and for wear, the late 19th century or earlier. It was the early period when the manufacturing of personal items began to shift to full-scale mass production. It was also a time when shoes and clothes were made primarily by hand in small workshops before that. While drawing inspiration from the diverse products born in such an era, with their unique styles and stories buried in history, we carefully select products that we can enjoy coordinating with our daily items today and gradually commercialize them. All products are manufactured in Japan. This is because only Japan can give shape to the subtle nuances and intentions conceived during the planning stage. ![]() ![]() ![]() Brown ![]() ![]() ![]() Gunmetal
Regarding the Product Many of our products are designed based on vintage items.
