＜About the Work＞
After the war, American soldiers stationed in Japan received souvenir jackets (sukajan) embroidered with emblems of their units as keepsakes.
The predecessor of Toyo Enterprise, Kosho & Co., was involved in the creation of these jackets.
As a trading company established after the dissolution of the zaibatsu, it handled imports and exports of fabrics, and thus had a deep connection with Aloha shirt fabrics.
This is the third reproduction of this work, featuring popular designs of eagles, tigers, and dragons from the souvenir jackets handled by Kosho.
At the time, all fabrics with oriental designs (Japanese patterns) printed on crepe material were printed in Japan, and the Aloha shirt movement that swept through Hawaii and mainland America after the war had a significant impact on Japan.
This piece was originally produced by Kosho & Co. for sale in military PXs (post exchanges) and is a very rare item bearing the "FASHION MART" brand name that Kosho used for overseas exports.

Aloha shirts symbolize paradise Hawaii. Japanese immigrants played a deep role in their origin, and not only tropical patterns but also Japanese patterns exist as vintage items.
By the mid-20th century, when Hawaii was established as a tourist destination, the demand for Aloha shirts as souvenirs rapidly increased. Designs and patterns diversified, and many works were created.
These are special items that are very rarely encountered during the process of collecting vintage Aloha shirts. To pay homage to the textile designers who created these masterpieces that are gradually being lost to the passage of time, Sun Surf's Special Edition faithfully reproduces their charm in every detail, including luxurious multi-color prints, powerful designs, and the varying details of each part depending on the manufacturer and era.
