＜About the Design＞
Betty Higgins was a unique brand that specialized in jackets made from brocade fabric woven with colorful threads to create elaborate patterns, as well as women's dresses made from Japanese-printed kimono fabrics.
It began as a custom dress shop after the war, setting up a store in the historic Royal Hawaiian Hotel, affectionately known as the "Pink Palace," and had many customers on the U.S. mainland.
Due to the small number of men's shirts produced, there are not many existing vintage pieces from this brand. However, most of the confirmed pieces feature oriental designs. This particular design depicts Sankin Kōtai, a system mandated by the Edo Shogunate for daimyō (feudal lords).
It is an extremely rare and intricately drawn design showing the daimyō procession forming a line to travel to Edo. Influenced by the oriental boom that started in Hawaii and spread to the U.S. mainland, many designs featuring "old Japan" were created at the time.
