＜Product Description＞
Kamehameha Garment Company was established in 1936 as an auxiliary agency of the military manufacturing uniforms for the US Army and Navy, and later grew into one of Hawaii's largest apparel manufacturers.
Kamehameha is the company's brand, and it has left behind many masterpieces, such as anthurium designs that make full use of multi-color discharge printing.
One of these is "Gauguin Woodcut," which is highly regarded as a work of art even in the vintage market.
This masterpiece was created by textile designer John Meigs, who collaged prints by the painter Paul Gauguin. However, there are actually two types of designs with different main motifs for the female figure.
One theory is that the difference arose from changing the pattern placement during the fabric cutting process. Another theory suggests that John Meigs changed the main motif at Kamehameha's request at the time.
Various theories are whispered, but none go beyond speculation, leaving it a work still shrouded in mystery.
This time, in response to many requests, Sun Surf is re-releasing the "MYSTIC" version (where the main motif of the woman is standing) that it worked on in 2014.

The aloha shirt, symbolizing paradise Hawaii. Its origins are deeply intertwined with Japanese immigrants, and not only tropical patterns but also Japanese patterns exist as vintage pieces.
By the mid-20th century, when Hawaii was established as a tourist destination, the demand for aloha shirts as souvenirs surged. Designs and patterns diversified, and many creations were born.
During the process of collecting vintage aloha shirts, one occasionally encounters a special gem. Honoring the textile designers who created these masterpieces, which are gradually disappearing with the passage of time, we perfectly reproduce their charm, including luxurious multi-color prints, powerful designs, and the details of each part that vary by manufacturer and era. This is Sun Surf's Special Edition.
