This piece features auspicious patterns such as yukiwa (snow rings) and fans, symbolizing a wish for a bountiful harvest and originating from melting snow, enclosing motifs with strong Oriental elements like carp, mounted warriors, and cranes, scattered throughout the shirt. These designs, used in kimonos even before the birth of aloha shirts, were very popular in Hawaii in the 1950s. This particular shirt was created by Liberty House, a long-established Hawaiian department store that created trends of the time with a product lineup that quickly incorporated new styles.
