Tiki, revered as the incarnation of a god on many Polynesian islands. Even in Hawaii, where gods were believed to reside in all things in nature, Tiki held a special significance, and has appeared as a motif on aloha shirts countless times. Among these, designs featuring Tiki as the main motif became popular after the 1960s, when the Polynesian boom reached its peak. The piece introduced here is from the very early period, a discharge print design in a single color on filament fabric, making it extremely rare and valuable.
