■SUN SURF × Tsukioka Yoshitoshi SPECIAL EDITION "NEW STORY" Short Sleeve Rayon Hawaiian Shirt Japanese Design Aloha Shirt SS39532

<Model: Height 175cm Weight 62kg, wearing size L>
The title of this work, "Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji" (The False Murasaki and the Rustic Genji), is a long novel by Ryutei Tanehiko, who reimagined the world of Murasaki Shikibu's "The Tale of Genji" by setting it in the period from the Heian to the Muromachi era, and published it with illustrations by Utagawa Kunisada (third Utagawa Toyokuni).
Published from 1829 (Bunsei 12) with 38 volumes (4 books per volume, totaling 152 books), it is said to be one of the works that developed Edo literature.
Later, after a further passage of time, Yoshitoshi Tsukioka expressed five scenes from the same work as large-format triptych nishiki-e prints in the Meiji era.
Depicted is a scene where Ashikaga Mitsuuji and his lover, Tasogare, take refuge in an old temple to escape the rain.
While they were planning to spend the night there, Tasogare's mother, Shinonome, who had become an ogress wearing a mask, attacked them.

Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was a ukiyo-e artist who was active from the late Edo period to the Meiji era.
He studied under Utagawa Kuniyoshi and at the age of 15, blossomed as an artist by drawing warrior pictures. He led the ukiyo-e world during the turbulent period of change from the late Edo period to the Meiji era, and is even called "the last ukiyo-e artist."
This time, in "NEW STORY," to express Tsukioka Yoshitoshi's work as an Aloha shirt, the original artwork is placed across the entire shirt, combined with gradations to create a sharp and impactful piece.

<National Treasure of Japan>
Focusing on the artists of the Edo period, when Japanese culture and art flourished even further,
the works of these masters are reproduced on the canvas of an Aloha shirt,
reviving the passion embedded in the designs (意匠) that Japan boasts to the world.
This series, which began with collaborations with Kawanabe Kyosai's works,
is welcoming new artists and entering its next phase of development.

●Overprint
A method of layering stronger colors over a pale base color. It allows for a wider range of colors compared to discharge printing,
and the overlapping colors at the boundaries create beautiful gradations.
It is suitable for realistic patterns like traditional Japanese designs.

●Rayon Fujiette
A plain weave fabric using filament rayon for the warp and spun rayon for the weft.
It combines the suppleness similar to Fuji silk with the unique texture of rayon.
The nappy surface is also a characteristic of Fujiette.
