■SUN SURF Short Sleeve Rayon Habutae Hawaiian Shirt "BATTLE MASK" SPECIAL EDITION SS39481
![]() <Model: Height 175cm, Weight 62kg, Wearing L> This design was created by "Triple Times California," a Japanese-affiliated fabric trading company that has been involved in importing and exporting various fabrics since the 1950s. It was one of the printed fabrics exported to the mainland US at the time, and was printed in Kyoto at the request of the company's design office in New York. This striking pattern, which is unforgettable once seen, is recorded to have been drawn by the chief female designer who led the designers belonging to that office. This fabric, which traveled from Kyoto to the mainland US in the 1970s, was mainly made into scarves, and very few aloha shirts were ever produced from it. Using a pioneering transfer printing technique called mirror print, it wonderfully expresses motifs drawn with many colors. The subject of the design is Polynesian tribal warrior masks, making this a piece characterized by its overwhelming power and beautiful colors. <SUN SURF SPECIAL EDITION> Aloha shirts symbolize Rakuten Hawaii. Japanese immigrants were deeply involved in their origin, and not only tropical patterns but also traditional Japanese patterns exist as vintage pieces. In the mid-20th century, when Hawaii was established as a tourist destination, the demand for aloha shirts as souvenirs rapidly increased. Designs and patterns diversified, leading to the creation of many works. These are special masterpieces that one rarely encounters during the process of collecting vintage aloha shirts. In homage to the textile designers who created these masterpieces, which are gradually being lost over time, Sun Surf's Special Edition thoroughly reproduces their charm, including multi-color luxurious prints, powerful designs, and details that vary depending on the manufacturer and era.
