Anthurium also arrived in Hawaii around the same time. The Hilo area of Hawaii Island, where many Japanese immigrants lived, had a climate highly suitable for anthurium cultivation. Among the immigrants, there were individuals with experience in cultivating plants, which led to the creation of many new varieties by their hands. The connection between Hawaiian plants and Japanese immigrants is deep, and this became the impetus for their use as motifs in aloha shirts.
