The GL3, a Toyoda Automatic Loom Works machine made half a century ago, is one of Japan's earliest power looms. Since no replacement parts exist, the only way to maintain it is to salvage parts from discarded machines of the same model. Its maintenance is labor-intensive, and it is an inefficient loom, weaving only 5 meters per hour. However, denim woven with this GL3 possesses the ruggedness and wildness of denim from half a century ago, making it a unique loom capable of expressing denim for workwear.

D'Artisan's classic SD-1000 series, the 'GL3 Series,' uses denim made with D'Artisan's original recipe for everything from the unevenness of the yarn, the yarn count, the color, and the number of warp and weft threads, to maximize the characteristics of this GL3. It boasts a unique uneven texture and roughness that cannot be expressed by modern denim produced efficiently and uniformly. This is a confident product, completed only after repeated trial weaving without any compromise.

The popular GL3 series now has an ecru version, where the yarn making up the fabric is not indigo dyed, allowing you to enjoy the natural color of the yarn. Unlike indigo denim, ecru jeans offer a different look and bring a new way to enjoy denim as they are worn in.

Studio D'Artisan, established in 1979, means "artisan's workshop". At that time, the concept of making jeans, now known as vintage replicas, barely existed in the Japanese jeans market.
