■SUGAR CANE シュガーケーン Made In U.S.A 13oz Jeans 1944MODEL Wide Straight SC41944US
![]() This model, created in 1944 during World War II, is reproduced in the United States, the home of denim workwear. In 1942, restrictions on metal parts for clothing and details of workwear began due to regulations by the US government. This was aimed at reducing the amount of metal, fabric, and thread used and continued until 1946. Items subject to these regulations had the initial "S" (for Simplified) added before their lot number. On these overalls, the back strap that had previously been present was omitted. The number of rivets and bar tacks was also subject to restriction, so the rivets on the coin pocket and crotch disappeared, and the hidden bar tacks on the hip pockets were changed to stitching. Lightweight denim supplied by the US government was used for the pocket lining, and the rough stitch pitch and uneven stitching due to a lack of experienced workers were also reproduced. While various wartime models existed at the time, Sugar Cane collected many vintage items as reference material, picked out characteristic details from them, and assembled them into this model, adopting the widest pattern for the silhouette. The fabric used is Sugar Cane's original 13oz. denim. Although "nep yarn," which is processed to create slubs, is currently mainstream, to match the technology of the time, adjustments were made during the spinning stage, successfully retaining short cotton fibers and waste that would normally be removed. This 7-count uneven yarn, produced by this spinning method, was woven on a shuttle loom. The selvedge uses two colors, red and pink, on both ends. When dyeing the warp with pure indigo, increasing the concentration would normally give it a reddish tint, but by suppressing the red tint and finishing it in an extra-dark shade, the vintage color was reproduced. It can be worn as a set-up with a jacket made from the same denim fabric. ![]() For many years, SUGAR CANE has continued to create button-down wear with meticulous attention to detail. It is a long-established brand of vintage American casual wear from Toyo Enterprise, which also owns flight jacket and collectible Hawaiian shirt brands such as Buzz Rickson's and Sun Surf.
