These were the words of a US Navy Quartermaster (QM: supply department) Major General during World War II. They were the world's largest buyers of textiles at the time. Under the directives of the War Production Board, factories were almost entirely handing over civilian goods to the QM. For factories, there was enormous difficulty in converting production facilities from civilian to wartime use. In addition to converting to military fabrics such as herringbone and sanforized drill, they considered using wider looms and needed to increase the number of available producers. In this situation, clothing manufacturers, forced to simplify due to material shortages, were greatly affected. "What did World War II do to denim?" One can infer this by understanding the circumstances of the time. The "WPA" labor employment project disappeared in 1943 due to the expansion of military demand, but surplus fabrics and materials must have been repurposed for valuable civilian goods at the time. This is because even denim looms were forced to change for military fabrics during that era. Such remnant fabric specifications were likely recommended as a substitute for pocket linings, as various fabrics were used during the war. Weight: 870g ![]() Since its establishment in 1995, despite being in an industry driven by fashion trends, the brand has never been swayed by them, constantly pursuing the theme of "faithful reproduction of vintage clothing." We thoroughly research each vintage piece we encounter by chance, considering the historical context in which it was produced, from the very threads to the fabric, sewing, and even the washing process.
