In the United States, shoes for civil servants who wear uniforms, such as military personnel, police officers, and postal workers, are called service shoes. Red Wing Shoes also offered a wide range of shoes for various jobs, from heavy-duty work boots to these service shoes.

The most famous of Red Wing's service shoes are the #101 oxfords, worn by postal workers across the United States and known as Postman Shoes. Along with these, the #9196 chukka boots were also worn by postal workers as designated footwear for the USPS (United States Postal Service).

The #195, the original model of the Postman Chukka #9196, appeared in 1958 as a variation of the Postman Shoes (oxfords) #101, which had been released a few years earlier and gained popularity. These were postman's shoes with a chukka height that offered the ease of oxfords while providing better protection against rain and dust. After a few minor changes, the model number changed to #196, and then to #9196, but the basic design has remained unchanged, making it a long-selling product to this day.

The combination of a formal design that matches uniforms, elegant and strong leather that is resistant to rain, and soles that reduce fatigue even after long walks, is the same as the oxford version. The thick, soft rubber sole, rich in cushioning, absorbs impact and reduces the burden on the feet, making it a strong ally for postmen who walked long distances every day with heavy bags full of mail on their shoulders.

This balance of design and functionality continues to appeal to modern users. They can be worn with business-like attire or dressed-down casual styles, making them versatile shoes that are comfortable for actively walking around town. That is why they have been continuously loved for nearly 70 years since their release.

We recommend polishing Black Chaparral leather with cream. This will enhance its luster and deepen its shine. "Boot Cream / Black" is suitable for polishing while covering scratches and adding color, but "Boot Cream / Neutral (colorless)" can also be used. Apply an amount of boot cream about the size of a few coffee beans to the entire surface, then polish with a soft cloth or brush. Regular brushing is also effective in preventing dirt and mold on your boots. Please use a long-haired horsehair Red Wing "brush" which is highly effective in removing dust.
