■REDWING PECOS 9" Hawthorne "Abilene" Roughout Lot.8168

Pecos boots are Western-style work boots developed by Red Wing Shoes.
Originally derived from Spanish riding boots, Western boots are pull-on boots with side seams on both sides of the shaft.
Most of them have a slightly pointed toe and a high heel.
This was because it was suitable for smoothly inserting the foot into the stirrup and holding firm while riding.

Red Wing Shoes once had a base in Texas and also sold Western boots in the 1930s.
Pecos boots are a simple yet sturdy boot that can be used for various types of work, created by applying Red Wing Shoes' expertise in functional work boot design methods to these Western boots.

Red Wing Shoes trademarked the Pecos boot and launched a series of products in 1959.
At that time, all Pecos boots had heels, but two years later, in 1961, they added the #866 to their lineup, which featured the Traction Tred sole that had gained high acclaim in work boots.
The white, thick, cushioned, flat sole was easy to wear on any ground and prevented fatigue.

With a slightly shorter shaft, a rounded toe for a Western-style boot, and a highly functional sole,
the #866 steadily gained recognition and became a long-selling product. Even today, it is worn as work footwear in areas with Western boot culture, such as the southwestern United States and Texas.

The #8168 was created in 1996 as a Japan-exclusive product based on the #866. At the time, it was released as a model using Hawthorne Abilene, a beige roughout leather, which was one of Red Wing's three major leathers, alongside the reddish-brown Oro Russet Portage #8866 and the black Chrome #8169 with a thick paint film.

Unlike many suede leathers, which are made by thinly slicing the napped side of the leather, this leather is a roughout leather where the grain side (the surface of the leather), which has the highest fiber density, is used on the inside and the napped side is used on the outside, meaning the leather is used inside out.
It was originally often used for outdoor footwear. It is a leather that allows you to enjoy the aging process, as dirt and other marks develop a deep character as you wear it.

Red Wing products can be repaired at the manufacturer's headquarters for a long time to come.
In addition to sole replacement, they offer repairs such as restitching and reattaching hardware,
to the extent possible.
Please contact our store for repair inquiries.

Please note that there may be natural wrinkles unique to genuine leather. Please understand this before purchasing leather products.

RED WING
One of the world's most famous boot manufacturers, founded in 1905. They created various innovative technologies and designs that became the foundation of modern work boots, establishing a solid position as a top brand to this day. They are one of the rare manufacturers in the world that owns a tannery to produce the leather used in their own shoes. The products sold at our store are not parallel imports; they are sourced through official channels via Red Wing Japan Co., Ltd., which is responsible for official import and sales in Japan.

■LAST NO.17
This last, developed in 1982, is relatively new, but its roots can be traced back to the 1950s when Pecos boots were developed.
Pecos boots were originally developed for ropers, so a low heel and a roomy toe, called a Wellington shape, were designed to allow for a firm stance, leading to the creation of last #71.
Last #17 is an adjustment of last #71 to accommodate not only the Goodyear welt construction but also the SuperSole construction.

■Traction Tred Cushion Wedge
In 1958, this sole was created to further enhance grip while retaining the arch support and lightweight performance of the cushion crepe sole used in Irish Setter boots.
This sole received strong support primarily from construction workers, especially those working at high altitudes.
In addition to being easy to wear, its flat sole, free of protrusions, relieved them of the fear of tripping over protruding heels on scaffolding at high places.

■Hawthorne "Abilene" Roughout
Abilene roughout leather is a dry-tan leather made without oil.
It is designed to maintain flexibility even without oil, so there is no need to oil it.
For cleaning the napped surface, use the rubber bar (eraser type) included in the "Roughout/Nubuck Cleaner Kit" to remove surface dirt,
Then, use the included brush to raise the nap on the leather surface. Also, when wearing on rainy days,
applying "Leather Protector" beforehand can provide water repellency and prevent dirt from seeping in.
Regular brushing is also effective in preventing dirt and mold on your boots.
Please use a Red Wing "brush" made of long horsehair, which is highly effective at sweeping away dust.
