■REDWING CLASSIC WORK 6" ROUND TOE Hawthorne "Abilene" Roughout Lot.8167

A classic model based on the traditional last (shoe mold) used since the company's founding!

Founded in 1905, Red Wing Shoes began manufacturing 6-inch round toe boots as basic work boots shortly after its inception.
The Classic Round is the evolution of these 6-inch round toe boots over a long history.

In the late 1940s, the two pieces of leather on either side of the ankle that had been sewn together at the heel were replaced with a seamless back, using a single piece of leather that gently enveloped the ankle from the heel side, resulting in a soft and light feel.

In 1953, a model was released with a Traction Tred sole, which was white, flat-bottomed, and highly cushioned. This sole had been first incorporated by Red Wing Shoes into men's work and hunting boots the previous year and had received a great response.
This boot, #766, which was comfortable and easy to wear on any surface, was sold in the United States for a long time but was discontinued in 1984.

In the Japanese market, #8165 and #8166, based on #766, became popular in the late 1980s.
To expand this variation, #8167 was created using Hawthorne Abilene, a beige roughout leather.
This leather was mainly used in Western boots such as Pecos boots and outdoor boots in the United States at the time.
Unlike many suede leathers, which are made by thinly slicing the napped side of the leather, roughout leather uses the grain side (leather surface), which is the most dense part of the leather fibers, on the inside and the napped side on the outside, meaning the leather is used in reverse. This type of leather was originally often used for outdoor footwear.
As it is worn, dirt and grime develop into a rich patina, making it a leather that can be enjoyed as it ages.
