■REDWING Red Wing Engineer Boots Stovepipe Black "Klondike" Non-Steel Style No.2966
![]() The #9268, released in 2014, features the upper pattern of Red Wing's engineer boots #2268 from the 80s and 90s (a design with a narrowed shaft, referred to as "stovepipe" within Red Wing), and uses black collected grain leather with a brown crust (a type of leather commonly known as "tea-core" leather). Following the tradition of #2268, which has been a safety boot equipped with a steel toe since its initial release in the 1960s, the #9268 also features a steel toe. However, between 1996 and 1997, there was a model called #968, which was a version of the #2268 with its steel toe replaced by a plastic toe cap. Similar to the work boot market in the US at the time, even today in Japan, many users do not require a steel toe or find that steel toe caps do not fit their feet, preventing comfortable wear. The #2966, released in 2016, is an engineer boot designed to meet these needs. It is a version of the #9268 with the toe cap changed from steel to a soft resin material. While maintaining the shape of the toe, the toe cap conforms to the foot's impact. It can be said to be a recreation of the #968 that existed in the late 90s. This engineer boot was revived at the milestone of Red Wing's 120th anniversary due to strong demand from Red Wing Japan users. For its re-release, the #2966 was chosen as a model that prioritizes ease of wear to better match the modern fashion market, while maintaining the unchanging individuality of engineer boots from the past. The "Black Klondike" leather used in these boots is a very flavorful leather where, as you break them in, the leather conforms, deep wrinkles appear on the instep and shaft, and scratches reveal the brown core underneath the black leather. Engineer boots, where the characteristics of work boots particularly stand out, can be said to be boots that deepen the wearer's affection. Red Wing products can always be repaired at the manufacturer's head office. In addition to sole replacement, they offer repair services for restitching and reattaching hardware, etc. They handle repairs to the greatest extent possible. Please contact our store for repair consultations. Total weight including box: Approximately 2660g ![]() One of the world's most famous boot manufacturers, founded in 1905. It has created various innovative technologies and designs that form the foundation of modern work boots, and has established an unshakeable position as a top brand to this day. It is a rare manufacturer in the world that owns its own tannery to produce the leather used in its shoes. The products sold at our store are not parallel imports, but are sourced through official channels via Red Wing Japan Co., Ltd., which is responsible for official imports and sales in Japan. ![]() Similar to the #9268 with steel toe specifications, the paper pattern is a reproduction of the one used before the current model, which underwent minor changes. The original paper patterns had been disposed of, making reproduction seem difficult, but some old paper patterns were found stored within the company, allowing for a nearly accurate reproduction of the unique design. ![]() ■LAST NO.50 A last developed in 1971 for logger boots and engineer boots, which were steel-toe boots with high heels. ![]() ■Black Neoprene Cord In the 1920s, the Gro-Cord sole greatly contributed to Red Wing's reputation as a durable and cost-effective work boot. It later evolved into the in-house developed Neoprene Cord sole, which is still used today. This sole, which follows the pattern of the original Gro-Cord sole and has enhanced resistance to oil and chemicals, is still made of resin mixed with cord-like nylon fibers to improve grip, as its name suggests.
![]() Crimping Crimping is the process of pre-shaping the part of the upper that extends from the instep to the ankle to conform to the foot, which the last cannot reach during lasting. This process was abolished in a minor change in the 2000s because the ankle part could stand up without it. We decided to reintroduce the original crimping machine and perform this process. ![]() Stamp Previously, product numbers and sizes were stamped on the leather inside the shaft, but in 2003, they began to be printed on tags to improve manufacturing traceability. For #2966, the old stamp notation is intentionally reproduced. The stamping machine, which had been stored in the factory for a long time, was maintained and put into use by recalling a retired former staff member. Vertical feather tag The current Red Wing shoe tags display the feather logo along with the product number, size, and other information all at once. However, this model reproduces the printed vertical feather tag that was used until the early 80s. ![]() RED WING Engraving Reproduces the engraving that was found inside the shaft of the right boot until the mid-90s. ![]() Strap Bartack Stitch Stitching to reinforce the base of the strap. Although it is no longer necessary due to technological advancements, it is intentionally used to reproduce the atmosphere of the time. ![]() Buckle While strong, thick cast buckles are used today, this model reproduces buckles manufactured using the same pressing method as in the past. Care Instructions Klondike is a leather where oil does not dry out easily due to the coating on the grain side (leather surface). Therefore, frequent oil replenishment is not necessary. However, by occasionally applying a very small amount of "Mink Oil" or "All Natural Leather Conditioner" to a cloth and rubbing it into the leather, you can simultaneously clean and provide an appropriate amount of oil. (Because oil has the property of dissolving dirt.) Also, this leather can be polished with cream to enhance its luster. Klondike is a "tea-core" type of leather where scratches and scuffs on the coating become part of its character. To enjoy its aging process, "Boot Cream / Neutral (colorless)" is suitable for creating a shine without color correction. For polishing that covers scratches and corrects color, you can also use "Boot Cream / Black." Apply a small amount of boot cream, about the size of a few coffee beans, all over, then polish with a soft cloth or brush. Regular brushing is also effective in preventing dirt and mold on your boots. Please use a Red Wing "brush" made of long horsehair, which is highly effective at removing dust. Size Details

To emphasize the atmosphere, there may be slight variations in stitching, fabric color, texture due to processing, and color unevenness. We hope you enjoy the product with an understanding of the above points. ![]() |
