 The Roughneck was born from boots first made in the mid-20th century for workers on oil drilling rigs. Rig workers, known as "roughnecks," were known for their dangerous jobs and needed sturdy boots to ensure their safety while working. As its name suggests, the Roughneck is built upon their legacy. Aside from the sole, the construction is similar to Red Wing's classic Moc, known for models like the #875, featuring a moc-toe type toe for exceptional comfort, and functionality and durability provided by high-quality leather and robust construction. Existing Roughnecks used Vibram 132 Lug, but with the new Black "Oil Slick" Leather #2949, the outsole has been changed to Vibram TC4 Plus Lug. While the appearance is the same, in addition to high slip resistance, the softer sole improves comfort and makes foot bending easier. "Oil Slick," as the name suggests, is leather rich in oil content, and the graining applied to the surface further enhances the texture of the leather, making it a unique pair. Red Wing products can receive repairs at the manufacturer's headquarters for a lifetime. In addition to sole replacement, they offer a wide range of repairs, such as re-stitching and reattaching hardware, as much as possible. Please contact our store for repair consultations.  ■Vibram TC4 Plus Lug  ■Black "Oil Slick" Oil Slick leather, as its name suggests, is leather rich in oil. Frequent oiling is not necessary, but if the leather surface appears dry over time, apply a thin layer of "Mink Oil" or "All Natural Leather Conditioner." After allowing it to sit for about 30 minutes, it is recommended to wipe off any remaining oil on the leather surface with a dry cloth. Additionally, regular brushing is effective in preventing dirt and mold on your boots. Please use a Red Wing "brush" made of long horsehair, which is effective in removing dust.
