Established in 1894 by John Barbour, Barbour developed fully waterproof jackets for fishermen working in the British port town of South Shields. Barbour jackets combine the finest Egyptian cotton with thornproof dressing (oil) to achieve complete waterproofing and breathability. Even if the effect diminishes, it can be restored by applying special oil. With proper maintenance, it can be worn for many years.
