Established in 1894 by John Barbour, Barbour developed fully waterproof jackets for fishermen working in the port town of South Shields, England. Later, it spread globally, primarily in the UK, becoming a brand favored by the British Royal Family. Barbour jackets combine the finest Egyptian cotton with thornproof dressing (oil) to achieve both complete waterproofing and breathability. Even if the effect diminishes, it can be restored by applying specialized oil. With proper maintenance, they can be worn for many years.
