This leather jacket is made from horsehide, based on the design of a 1944 denim jacket.
The material used for this product is a newly developed 1.6mm thick horsehide, treated with a combination (chrome x tannin) tanning process.
After chrome tanning, the solvents are washed away, and then the leather is re-tanned with tannin to bring out the best qualities of tannin.
This results in leather with a moderate weight and richness that develops an appealing character with wear.
The base leather is dyed light brown, and then an old-established finishing factory in Tokyo applies black dye using a hill-dyeing method, creating a "tea core" leather.
To achieve a stronger black color, a semi-aniline finish, using a 50/50 mix of pigment and dye, is applied.
The dye, which colors the base, and the pigment, which forms a coating on top, match perfectly, leading to excellent aging with wear.
It offers the softness of leather not found in 100% pigment finishes, and because the coating is thin, the base color will quickly show through with wear.
The buttons are laurel wreath buttons with a verdigris finish.
The design reproduces the "T-back" detail on the back, which was originally a specification only for sizes 46 and larger.
For larger sizes, due to the width (area) of the fabric, the original design involved using two pieces of fabric sewn together in the middle.
This detail, now known as "T-back," is favored by vintage enthusiasts, and we have reproduced it (common to all sizes).
Additionally, the back features a buckle-back.
The silhouette is slightly longer in length and a bit slimmer than a vintage 1st type.
This is a piece where you can feel the goodness of the simple design of the 1st type and the soft, easy-to-wear horse leather.
It's a versatile leather jacket that can be worn regardless of age, coordination, or style.
