In 1922, Grain & Field Outfitters faced new demands.
Long hours of labor and travel, coupled with significant temperature variations. Traditional shirts were insufficient, while coats were overkill.
To bridge this gap, they developed a field jacket using merino wool.
It combined lightness and warmth, integrating the operability of a shirt with the protective qualities of a coat. Features included a placket that opened wide, movable cuffs, an A-line silhouette, and a hip-covering length.
It was born not from specific utility, but from a rational adaptation to the environment. Few were made, and even fewer survived.
However, this garment was another perfect form achieved by Grain & Field.

Merino Wool Melton
11oz wool melton fabric woven in a sateen weave using vintage Schoenharr looms in Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture.
A special wool melton made from 90% wool and 10% nylon, luxuriously using merino wool, which is known for its soft texture and minimal skin irritation.
