"Ni-ai" refers to a purple color created by dyeing with both indigo and safflower.
This color has existed since the Heian period and was particularly used in aristocratic attire.
At that time, purple was considered a noble color in the ranking system and was even a forbidden color allowed only to certain statuses.

It is characterized by the subtle color tone woven by the depth of indigo and the vibrancy of safflower.
Japanese people have loved the beauty of this delicate color and incorporated it into their attire.

D'ARTISAN has recreated this traditional Japanese color, "Ni-ai," and produced original denim.
The warp threads are dyed with natural indigo and madder, expressing a deep purple color.
The natural unevenness unique to natural dyes accentuates the distinctive texture.
Both warp and weft threads use #6 uneven slub yarn.
Using a power loom in Ihara City, Okayama Prefecture, and carefully weaving it over time,
a heavy, textured finish with a unique feel has been achieved.

and have found beauty in them.
