■BUZZ RICKSON'S Lot No. BR42592 / WILLIAM GIBSON COLLECTION BLACK M-51 TROUSERS
![]() Model: 175cm tall, 62kg weight, wearing M size These field trousers were adopted by the U.S. Army in 1951, made from cotton sateen with the reverse side used. Around this time, the Army adopted the M-51 series layered system as cold-weather combat attire. Soldiers wore an undershirt and drawers (thermal underwear), then a wool field shirt and field trousers, and finally a cotton field jacket and field pants over them. All M-51 garments were designed for cold weather, emphasizing a loose fit to trap body heat and block out external cold. The cord loop inside the waist is a detail for hooking the metal hooks at the ends of suspenders. <WILLIAM GIBSON COLLECTION> The BLACK MA-1 was first produced by Buzz Rickson's to commemorate its 10th anniversary. In the globally renowned novelist William Gibson's "Pattern Recognition," the protagonist wears a "Buzz Rickson's Black MA-1." This led to the actual creation of the Buzz Rickson's Black MA-1, inspired by the novel. While the official color for the MA-1, adopted by the US Air Force in the 1950s, was originally sage green, a truly authentic BLACK MA-1 using military-grade parts and materials based on mil-spec, but in black, did not exist. Therefore, it became highly popular and a talking point among users who appreciated authenticity. Even if materials were specified to be black, the dyeing process varied depending on the material. When assembled into a single jacket, subtle color differences emerged, clearly showing how many different materials make up a flight jacket. Weight: 980g ![]() Buzz Rickson's is a military brand of Toyo Enterprise, which also owns vintage American casual brands such as Sugar Cane and Sun Surf. The company's relationship with the military dates back to its predecessor, Kosho Shokai, which supplied souvenir jackets (such as sukajan) to US military bases. In 1993, they released their first flight jacket reproduction. Since then, the military wear they have successively reproduced, like Sun Surf's Hawaiian shirts and Sugar Cane's denim wear, are all perfectly crafted.
