The U.S. Army Air Force tested various materials to solve the problems of the summer flight jacket A-2 (expensive, difficult to mass-produce, etc.). With the adoption of nylon, developed by DuPont in 1939, the Type L-2 flight jacket for the light zone (temperature range 10°C to 30°C) was completed on May 21, 1945.
This new material and collarless design became the basic model that largely changed subsequent flight jackets.
The Type L-2 featured a leather box tab for securing the oxygen mask hose, and the lining was made of a double-woven fabric of smooth nylon and wool with appropriate thermal insulation. There were only three contracts for the L-2, and this L-2 was one of the first produced by Reed Products, Inc.
This is a patch model of the U.S. Air Force, 2nd Air Refueling Squadron.

Buzz Rickson's is a military brand of Toyo Enterprises, which also owns vintage American casual brands such as Sugar Cane and Sun Surf. The company has a long history with military items, dating back to the Koushouji era (the predecessor of Toyo Enterprises) when it supplied souvenir jackets (such as sukajan) to U.S. military bases. In 1993, the company released its first flight jacket. Since then, the military wear it has reproduced, like Sun Surf's Hawaiian shirts and Sugar Cane's denim wear, are all perfectly crafted.
