The Type E-1 emergency vest was adopted around 1950. Among the few military vests, it is a highly versatile vest that can be worn layered with a jacket, similar to the C-1 vest issued in the 1940s.

While the C-1 vest used rayon-cotton material, this E-1 vest uses a rough nylon oxford material, doubled for both the outer and inner layers.
The E-1 vest features pockets on both sides for storing a radio and battery, and adjustable grosgrain tapes are provided to secure these heavy items to the body, preventing movement.

In addition, the upper part of the pockets is reinforced with leather, a meticulous detail for areas where the radio is inserted and removed, and where the main unit's cord is plugged in. While its appearance is simple, the yellow embroidered label on black and the heat-transferred Air Force mark tell the story of its birth in the good old days of flight equipment, which is precisely the greatest appeal of this vest.

Buzz Rickson's is a military brand of Toyo Enterprise, which owns vintage American casual brands such as Sugar Cane and Sun Surf. The company's relationship with the military is long-standing, with roots tracing back to the company's predecessor, Koshō Shōji, which supplied products such as souvenir jackets (Sukajan, etc.) to US military bases. In 1993, they released their first flight jacket. Since then, the military wear they have successively reproduced, like Sun Surf's Hawaiian shirts and Sugar Cane's denim wear, are all perfectly crafted.
