The Type E-1 emergency vest was adopted around 1950. Among the few military vests, it is a highly versatile vest that can be layered with a jacket, similar to the C-1 vest issued in the 1940s.

While the C-1 vest used rayon-cotton material, this E-1 vest uses a rough nylon oxford material, with a double layer for both the outer and lining.
On both sides of the E-1 vest, there are pockets designed to store a radio and battery. Adjustable grosgrain tapes are installed to secure these heavy items to the body to prevent them from moving.

Additionally, the upper part of the pockets, near where the radio is inserted or its cord is plugged in, is reinforced with leather, showcasing meticulous attention to detail. Although it has a simple appearance, the black vest with yellow embroidered labels and heat-transferred Air Force marks tells the story of its birth in the golden age of flight equipment, which is precisely the greatest appeal of this vest.

Buzz Rickson's is a military brand from Toyo Enterprise, which owns vintage American casual brands such as Sugar Cane and Sun Surf. The company's relationship with the military is long-standing, with roots in supplying souvenir jackets (such as sukajan) to US military bases during its predecessor company, Kosho Shokai. In 1993, the first flight jacket was released. Since then, the military wear that has been reproduced, like Sun Surf's Hawaiian shirts and Sugar Cane's denim wear, are all perfectly crafted.
