The herringbone twill adopted by the U.S. Army was used for combat purposes and as protective clothing against gas.
The herringbone twill used a single color, olive drab, which had a high camouflage effect.
The Jacket, Herringbone Twill underwent a total of four minor changes from 1941 to 1943.

The first pattern featured cuffed sleeves and pleated pockets on the chest.
From the second pattern onwards, the pockets became longer and gusseted for larger capacity, and the sleeve pattern was changed to straight sleeves.
The third pattern was characterized by metal buttons on the back of the collar for attaching a hood, and a gas flap was added to the placket to enhance airtightness as protective clothing against poisonous gas.

The addition of this gas flap led to "SPECIAL" being written on the label.
All patterns feature a front closure with black-painted 13-star metal buttons, with a wide spacing between the first and second buttons.
When the first button is opened, it resembles a wide lapel, giving it a military uniform appearance.

Buzz Rickson's is a military brand from Toyo Enterprise, which owns vintage American casual brands such as Sugar Cane and Sun Surf. Their connection with military items goes way back to when their predecessor, Kosho Shokai, supplied items such as souvenir jackets (sukajan) to U.S. military bases. In 1993, they released their first flight jacket. Since then, their successive reproductions of military wear, much like Sun Surf's Hawaiian shirts and Sugar Cane's denim wear, are all perfectly crafted.
