■BUS RICKSON'S BUZZ RICKSON'S Lot No. BR02857 / WILLIAM GIBSON COLLECTION SHOES, LOW QUARTER, BLACK VERSION
A black version of the service shoes issued to the U.S. Army in the 1940s, using an army last. The leather used is calfskin (calf leather) from calves around 6 months old, characterized by its fine grain fibers and beautiful grain. The back of the shoe opening, which is subjected to the most stress when worn, has a "dog tail" shape, which is a detail that prevents the stitching from breaking or tearing due to stress if the split seam were to extend all the way to the top. The sole and heel use Cat's Paw soles, which were attached to vintage American shoes and boots. <WILLIAM GIBSON COLLECTION> The first BLACK MA-1 produced by Buzz Rickson's when the brand celebrated its 10th anniversary. In William Gibson's globally renowned novel "Pattern Recognition," the main character is described as wearing a "Buzz Rickson's Black MA-1." From that novel, the actual Buzz Rickson's Black MA-1 was born. While the official color for the MA-1 adopted by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s was originally sage green, a genuinely black MA-1 with military-spec parts and materials based on military standards did not exist in the world. Therefore, it was well-received and became a hot topic among authentic users in the market. Even if each material is specified in black, the dyeing method differs depending on the material, and when these are assembled into a single jacket, subtle color differences appear, making it clear how many different materials a flight jacket is composed of. Total weight including outer box: 1500g ![]() Buzz Rickson's is a military brand of Toyo Enterprises, which owns vintage American casual brands such as Sugar Cane and Sun Surf. The company has a long history with the military, with its predecessor, Port Trading Company, supplying products such as souvenir jackets (Sukajan, etc.) to U.S. military bases. In 1993, they released their first flight jacket. Since then, the military wear they have successively reproduced, like Sun Surf's Hawaiian shirts and Sugar Cane's denim wear, are all perfectly crafted.
