The neck has been changed to a double-binder tough neck specification, making it a more durable item that resists stretching. While thermals are usually worn as innerwear, BARNS OUTFITTERS has made them with a thick fabric that is comfortable to wear and can be enjoyed simply as a single item. Renewed with tougher details. It features a moderately firm, thick fabric that feels good against the skin and resists losing its shape. This is a truly iconic American casual piece with a vintage-like finish that resists stretching. Ribbed knit fabric was sewn around the neck and sleeves, but the neckline has been changed to a double-binder tough neck specification, and the cuffs are now double-layered ribbed knit, emphasizing durability and resistance to stretching. The "karakan" (run-off stitch) specification, where the stitching on the sides of the hem and cuffs would end and the thread would hang loose, was a common vintage detail for sewing machines of the time. This specification is said to have been used to streamline and simplify production during the era of mass production, but today it has become a luxurious specification that requires skill and effort to reproduce the techniques of that time.
